I have been without four wheel drive for about 2 months.

After my last trip to Moab I noticed a sound coming from what I thought was the front driveshaft. I removed the front driveshaft and the sound stayed. I then thought itwas the front drivers side hub bearing so I swapped it out and the sound remained. So then I removed the axle shafts from the ujoints to the differential (of course leaving the outer axle to hold the hub together) and the sound is now gone. I still don't know where the sound is coming from though and I don't have four wheel drive. I have since removed the carrier to check the bearings and also the pinion to check its bearings. Nothing stood out to me so I haven't done anything since. The only problem is that I don't have four wheel drive and the winter has been cold and slippery here in Utah. I avoid snow as if I were driving a Hummer or a Toyota. I got stuck the other day 30 feet from my house when I slid into a neighbors snowpile at the foot of their driveway. I rocked it back and forth until it came loose but it was embarassing none the less.
I still don't know where the sound is coming from.

  • January 6, 2010, 11:16 am - I thought I would have to replace the remote entry system for about $400. My remote stopped working, and if you buy a new one online, for the sport cherokee you still need to have the dealer program it. I was told I probably needed the whole system. Anyway, I located it in the ceiling console, unplugged it and replugged it, and now it works fine again! Harold - Harold
