Well I finished the Dana 30 Regear

It has been a while but I finally finished the regear.

Originally I thought that I would be able to do the regear with the tools that I had, but I found that there were some tools that I needed and it was basically going to be impossible to do without them.

I decided that I would need a bearing splitter. That proved to be very useful for this project. I wanted to pull the bearings without destroying them so I could use them as dummy bearings. I ground them down a bit so they would slide on and off the new parts so I could test the shim setup. These test bearings were very useful as well and I can't imagine trying to do this regear without them.

I drove my jeep around a little yesterday and it works great. I haven't engaged the dana 30 yet because the gears are currently mismatched and it would be really bad to put it into 4 wheel drive with different gears in front and back.

There was a wining sound that I had in my driveline somewhere before I did the regear. When I got in there I found that it was a carrier bearing that was a little messed up that was making the wining noise. Now there is no sound and that has made the whole job worth it.

Now I need to regear the rear. I will make sure I have all the tools I need this time so the job will take less than a month!
